My inner grammarian is twitching at the typo in the last panel. Please make the subject and verb agree: far too many children out there who *NEED* places like this.

Now for commentary on actual story: curious as to why this woman seems rather calm about the whole sacrifice situation while the man they encountered on the street couldn’t run away fast enough.

I’m pretty sure it was more of a, “Oh MY, you’re OPENLY abandoning your baby?” male response. I mean, a woman holding a baby is generally presumed to be the mother.

Heck, when I was fourteen people presumed my baby siblings were mine and I looked even younger than that. Blaaar. Though I don’t know if this is as common with white chicks as brown chicks.

As for the grammar, she’s surrounded by children, holding a baby, and has a baby strapped to her back. Been there, done that, made grammar errors periodically.

Perfectly fine for a piece of dialog to contain grammatical errors; people don’t speak in perfect English. I know very few people who do. Perhaps that’s just her way of speaking. When reading dialog, I defer to the author’s concept; they know what they’re doing and we don’t.

Heh, yes it *is* a typo – and we will be fixing it shortly. The master files are with Aimo however, and she’s 12 hours ahead of me, so she’s probably sleeping right now. ^_^

Though it’d also be cool if it was a, dude all, “THE MOUNTAIN WILL ANGER!” and the chick was all, “Eff that, babies be babies.”

That was what I was thinking, except the guy was “Oh crap, you stole a god’s offering” and reacted appropriately to that realization. Meanwhile at the orphanage, it is all “poor thing, let me help! Leaving you on the mountain for silly superstitious reasons! But the woman is not as nice as she seems–she didn’t mention the practice of leaving the baby at all because she will use the baby as an offering for a rival deity. I really hope not, cuz I want a happy place for the kids!

Awww, I love this part. Too often orphanages are descripted as awful places. I mean, obviously it would be better for those kids to live with their family, but sometimes it’s just impossible. But in the same time it doesn’t mean they will go through nightmare. Orphanages are often filled with good people who really care about children.
