Guilty feelings, but is it really her fault?

Don’t see how. But she’s got a well-worn guilt track in her mind, and with the shock of the moment it’s reactivating.

Actually, I kinda wish Willow would go back to the “You deserve everything that happens to you,” mindset. Because this was never her responsibility and Gideon treated her like a doormat anyway.

That’s a very simplistic view of the situation. If Gideon had treated Willow “like a doormat”, do you think he would’ve cared in the slightest about his actions? Do you think he’d have been that distraught and hesitant to tell her the truth? Do you think he would’ve even bothered? People aren’t that simple and relationships are complicated. Frankly, I’m very surprised by the depth and understanding of emotional intelligence this had taken, and I’m so glad I came back to this comic. I’m more invested now than ever.

Oh, please do not misunderstand, friend, I do not think there is any lacking in emotional depth in this comic–I think we feel so strongly for the characters because they are portrayed in such an accurate way. Gideon’s shame at how he will be perceived by Willow may have stayed his tongue when it came to accepting the responsibility of his own actions in regard to both of their plights, but it certainly did not stop him from being negative and hostile towards her on a far more frequent level. His contrary nature was habitual in taking stinging jabs at her personally and showing her an innate lack of respect, but his ego was threatened by telling Willow the truth, which indicates more so to me that he hated less the idea of hurting Willow and more the idea of accepting his own failings as an individual. It was not until the moment when his focus and drive towards fixing his own predicament came very close to killing Willow that he finally spoke the truth–something he could have done far sooner but chose not to. Unlike when he chose to aggravate and demean her, which he seemed to have very few qualms with. I think I felt the most empathy for Willow when she finally allowed her anger to take front and center rather than her guilt because, quite frankly, Gideon did deserve that.

Wait what? The fact he spoke the truth because it nearly killed her? Maybe that was his growth as a character to admit his wrong doings even if that person hates him for it. Yes he could have told the truth earlier many of us could in our relationships but sometimes fear can hold a lot back. Sounds like Gideon hid his guilt by speaking jabs but I wouldn’t say he said stuff really bad. Also in most media I’ve read, foxes aren’t known for being kind. I’ve seen relationships much more toxic than Gideon and Willow.

Seeing as she admitted to sleeping with a guy not hers? Nothing excuses that behaviour Arden is just as bad. Red and Mara are better off. Willow deserves this guilt trip.
