As a Scottish person, I have to say, seeing someone of nobility saying “Ye Ken” (means “you know” for those curious) is a bit jarring considering it’s slang – I just feel that sort of language would have been heavily discouraged during noble upbringing.

My only criticism thus far in this otherwise lovely comic!

I know I’m late to the party but I’m just reading through the comic. I just wanted to say that it would depend on when the story was set. “Ye ken” is a good Scots phrase that has only come to be thought of a slang in recent times. The kings and the nobles of Scotland used to speak broad Scots. An example would be James V’s (alleged) dying words when he heard that his queen had given birth to their only child, a girl (Mary Queen of Scots) “It cam wi a lass, it shall gang wi a lass” (“It came with a girl it shall go with a girl”, i.e. his ancestor acquired the throne by marrying the daughter of the previous king) It was only after his grandson James VI also inherited the throne of England that speaking Scots went out of fashion and it started to be thought of by fashionable folk as something only ignorant people did.

Eh well. At this point I don’t think we’ll be changing it but thanks for letting us know. 🙂 There’s no actual date for any of this since it’s not really set in the real world.
